What an Oasis
The heat of that desert breeze is like a
blasting inferno,
Blazing across the desert registering
triple digits,
Sucking the water from the deserts
floor,
It leaves nature with sporadic moisture
for growth.
The water table continues to descend,
Submerging the water level to an all
time low,
Those native to the climate endure the
heat quite well,
Yet for some it will prove to be life
threatening.
The cactus apple is still a vibrant red,
The Yucca blossoms look out of place on
a thirsting vine,
The Joshua trees remind me of stick men
crossing the land,
And the palm trees line the river banks
in luscious serene greenery.
The crystal shimmers of reflections
dance upon the surface,
As the small motor crafts cut through
the water,
Civilization has changed the scenery of
the horizon,
Yet that sunset in the desert is still
as breathtaking as ever.
Our visit is like a pilgrimage,
Drawing us back time and time again,
Delivering rejuvenation and relaxation,
It is the oasis of beauty in the middle
of the desolate Mojave.

Shared Vanilla
The day began with good intentions,
With a sunrise painted in soft ribbons
of gold, swaying across the horizon,
The hillsides hold the scattered
shadows,
As close as a lovers embrace.
The tops of the palms,
Sway ever so slightly,
Dancing to the melodies of a slow waltz,
Whispering sweet everything’s, on a warm
gentle breeze.
The rows of lighted lamps,
Spill upon the highways, leaving the
city life behind,
Yet the soft muted glows of orange,
Run across the horizon and release the
evening’s shadows.
Twilight is mere moments away,
The evening’s sky is the backdrop
displaying those twinkling wonders,
Our conversation drifts into
speechlessness,
We simply sit back and enjoy the
simplicity of life.
One can feel the coolness begin,
On a warm summer night,
Alone with each other,
We share the coolness of a vanilla cone.
